TICA Registration codes

Hi everyone .Serengeti breeders often talk about registration codes AON, BON, CON , AOP ect ..It can be baffling, ( well it was to me) I have tried to explain these codes below in a simplified form so that all can understand.

In order to produce a first generation Serengeti the first and only approved cross (at this time ) is a Bengal crossed with an Oriental..The TICA have registered some Bengal / Siamese over the years as Serenegti but this has been an administration error on their part and having realised their error the TICA are now no longer registering that first generation mix as Serengeti but Bengal/ Siamese..Cats wrongly registered still hold registration as AON Serenegtis and can be used in a Serengeti breeding programme.
That is not to say that all AON's are Bengal /Siamese .
Once you have the initial Serengeti ( WHATEVER THE CODE) you can cross it to any other cat that you feel will bring something to the breed helping you progress towards the Serengeti Standards.

Codes are used to track the progression of the breeding program.

Every cat regsitered with the TICA is coded according to pedigree. This code is made up of three initial letters / numbers followed by the cats birth date( Month/ date/year) and a number which corresponds to the number of kittens registered on that particualr day.
The first three characters of the code contain all the information on the cats pedigree. It can be broken down as follows.
A B C
This is a hybridization code.
A = The cat is the product of two different breeds.
B = The cat has at least one grandparent of a different breed / both parents are the same breed.
C = The cat has at least one great grandparent of a different breed.

Hybridization codes are import since they give a direct indication of the cats outcross history.

Second character
0 1 2 3
This character represents an ancestory record code.
0 = No unknown or unregsitered cats in the last 3 generations.
1 = At least 1 unknown or unregistered parent.
2 = At least 1 unknown or unregistered grandparent.
3 = At least 1 unknown or unregistered great grandparent.

Third character
N P
N = Non -permissible outcross within 3 generations of the pedigree
P = Permissible tells us that any outcrosses in the last 3 generations are from Oriental shorthairs or Bengals.

Once a Serengeti has no unknown or unregistered cats and no outcrosses within 3 generation pedigree it becomes an SBT and has left the foundation stage of development. SBT'S can only be crossed within its breed group
